We are trial attorneys. We like courtrooms, judges and rules of evidence. If the truth is told, it is nothing more than story telling confined by arcane rules of narrative. With the introduction of rules, it also means that, often as not, our job is to use the arcane rules to keep the other side from telling their story.
Criminal law has some of the best stories. There is nothing like gun fire, blood and treachery to liven up a narrative. It is criminal law where the rules are often as important as the story. We represent people on everything from speeding tickets to capital murder.
Personal injury is the flip side of criminal law, which is why we like it. Often it is more challenging. When the other side has not broken a law, you need someone to tell your story so it is not just an accident but the result of careless stupidity. Auto accidents or car wrecks are the most common source of injury but careless doctors and their medical malpractice often cause more harm.
Family law has its fair share of backstabbing and sharp dealing. Whether your story involves a marriage slipping into divorce or a child, we can help you get your story out there. With children, it involves not just custody but adoptions and guardianships.
Probate law is closely related. When there is a loved one who is losing their marbles, seeking guardianship over an adult can look a lot like a divorce. At other times, probate law involves sorting through the pieces after an untimely death. Having sometimes picked a losing fight, we can also help you plan your estate to keep it out of probate court.
Employment law and the loss of a job involve similar stories. Given how much effort we put into our work, the loss of job can seem almost as bad as the loss of loved one. We continue to handle discrimination, harassment, Personnel Advisory Board and prevailing wage claim cases.
As we like courtrooms, our practice is generally limited to Southeast Missouri. We can and often have traveled outside this area but primarily we practice in the courthouse within 100 miles of Poplar Bluff. The courthouses in the surrounding counties are located in: Alton, Benton, Bloomfield, Cape Girardeau, Caruthersville, Centerville, Charleston, Doniphan, Eminence, Greenville, Ironton, Kennett, New Madrid, Poplar Bluff, Van Buren, and West Plains.
Here is link to a Map, which will give you a fair idea of the part of Missouri where we practice.
